Each place has its own advantages - heaven for the climate, and hell for the society.

The Property Magazine, Woman & Home, Cape ETC… and a PICA!

pica.jpgFeatures Editor of Woman & Home, Sharon Preston will be taking over the reins as Editor of Media Nova’s flagship consumer title, The Property Magazine from December. Adding to the winning formula and also joining the editorial team as Cape Town Bureau Chief is Tamryn Bekker, formerly Editor of Cape ETC and recently back in South Africa from a stint in New York with Conde Nast Publications. And in a final scoop after a busy week at the Media Nova camp, The Property Magazine brought home a PICA, winning the category Largely Free Distribution – Consumer magazines.

Previously Features Editor for Woman & Home Magazine, Sharon started her career in publishing as a Features Writer for one of South Africa’s iconic titles, Style magazine, in 1980.

After a hugely successful year that saw The Property Magazine increase its audited AMPS readership by 28% to 419 000, win the South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) Property Magazine of the Year Award and the PICA last week, its current editor, Ann Ellis Brown, will be stepping down for personal reasons.

Tony Vaughan, Managing Director of Media Nova, publishers of The Property Magazine said, “Ann has been a breath of fresh air for us and whilst we are sorry to say goodbye we are really excited to appoint Sharon and Tamryn to the editorial team.  Publishing three regional editions of the magazine has brought us some interesting editorial challenges over the years.  In appointing a Gauteng based editor we made a strategic decision to fully exploit the true regional editorial potential of the magazine from a different perspective than in the past.  Adding Tamryn to the mix together with Anne Schauffer, our long term KZN Bureau Chief, makes for a really exciting team as we approach our 5th anniversary edition early next year.”

“I have absolutely loved working on The Property Magazine,” says Ann Ellis Brown, “but I know I’m leaving it in safe hands. The two new appointments will definitely take the magazine to the next level.”

Media Nova formalize their Customer Publishing Division

Following the huge success of their two lifestyle titles, The Property Magazine and Sandton magazine, Media Nova have now made a strategic decision to formalize their Customer Publishing Division. This decision follows hot on the heels of Media Nova being awarded the contract to publish the RCI Directory of Resorts 2009–2010.

Says Media Nova MD, Tony Vaughan: “As we already publish three customer titles, we have always understood that we can grow our current portfolio, and now that we have won another title, following a hard-fought tender process, we thought that it was time to formalize our customer publishing offering. Customer publishing demands at least the same standards of quality and journalism that a reader has come to expect from a consumer title combined with the commercial know-how needed to keep costs under control. Too many customer titles currently published either do not meet the minimum quality standards or do so at such a price tag they are increasingly less affordable for their customer. Our customers get excellent value for money together with the highest of publishing standards.”

Debbie Griffiths joins Media Nova as Deputy Sales Director to focus on growing this stable for the award-winning publishing firm. Hailing most recently from Media24, Debbie has 17 years’ experience in customer and trade publishing. Debbie will also be managing the four customer titles already published by Media Nova, namely RCI Directory of Resorts 2009–2010, RE/MAX Showcase, Greeff Outlook and Giltedge.

Another new addition to the Media Nova team is Account Executive Annelie van der Westhuizen. Annelie is also from Media24. She too will be based at Media Nova’s Sandton offices.
