Out and about in the Mother City
Following the success of the 2010 and 2011 editions, the third in the series, The Cape Town Official Visitors Guide 2012 is available from Cape Town Tourism visitor centres, and will be online in early 2012, on the Cape Town Tourism website (tourismcapetown.co.za).
The guide features top rated places to visit in Cape Town and surrounds, and includes suggested route maps, a thorough list of ‘must-do’ activities, and makes use of an informative and comprehensive editorial flow. Its 140 page, hold-in-the-hand size is both compact and user-friendly.
Cape Town’s recent win as World Design Capital (WDC) 2014 is an exciting accomplishment for the city. The WDC designation entitles Cape Town to run a year-long programme of design-focused events under the banner of ‘World Design Capital’. Not only will this draw the attention of international design and creative communities to the winning city, but it will also drive tourism towards it. Cape Town Tourism is a firm supporter of this achievement and The Official Visitors Guide will be an effective tool in linking visitors to the Cape.
The guide showcases inspiring and essential places to visit, a variety of accommodation options, tantalizing restaurants and plenty of activities to contemplate, as well as upcoming events to attend.
A second print run is scheduled for the end of January 2012, so advertisers who missed the opportunity may contact justin@medianova.co.za.
Forging new frontiers
Tony Vaughan, MD of Media Nova has joined forces with Thembelani Tukwayo of The Publishing House, to establish Media Nova Custom Publishing (MNCP).
MNCP will publish contract titles which are specifically researched, written, designed and printed. Additionally, MNCP will be engaged in developing conferencing, events and content management for magazines, as well as active material for internet and new media such as iPads and tablets, and for publication on social network sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
This partnership has won the South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) titles, which include South African Property Review, Property Register, Property Developer, and The SAPOA Annual Report.
The SAPOA stable of publications will be edited under David Steynberg, with titles running at various times throughout the year. South African Property Review will comprise 11 issues commencing on the 1st of February 2012, Property Developer will be printed quarterly commencing on the 1st of March 2012, Property Register is scheduled for October 2012, and the SAPOA Annual Report will be out on the 9th of April 2012.

Media Nova Christmas party 2010
“Where are we going?”
“I don’t know. Let’s just drive!”
“Ok!”
These fateful words were uttered as eleven Renaults somehow managed to make their way from the airport to Media Nova’s offices in Bree Street.
This set the tone for our whirlwind trip through Cape Town for Media Nova’s end-of-year bash.
Media Nova at Decorex Joburg
Over the last few years readers will have seen The Property Magazine at Decorex shows across the country – always looking fabulous! And for the first time, Sandton magazine had the chance to take up a stand. Boy, did we blow onlookers away.
Of course, being glossy lifestyle magazines, exceptional work was done on our stands. Clean, sophisticated and modern; keeping to our customary colour scheme of black, red and white. The Bakos Brothers did The Property Magazine proud – one would expect nothing less from this interiors giant!
La Grange Interiors couldn’t have done a more superb job on our Sandton stand with a neutral, rustic look. There must have been more visitors stopping to admire the furniture than the magazine itself.
Because the two stands, with their individual personalities, had adjacent positioning, we had to separate them somehow. Enter ‘The Dog’ … a larger than life 3m x 2m interchangeable magazine billboard designed and built for the Bow Wow campaign, a design competition hosted by ID Solutions in collaboration with Design Indaba and Magis. On one side you’ll find a cover of Sandton magazine with the head end of a Magis dog and the other the cover of The Property Magazine with the back end.
A big thank you to our stand designers and Brand-Aid for their stunning work this year!
Then, for our second year running the Decorex/ The Property Magazine Green Stand Award, we found an abundance of stands promoting environmentally friendly products and services, but the stand that took the cake was Black Chilli Design.
Aslam Mahomed, owner of Black Chilli Design, created an eco-friendly dining room setting on his Sanlam New Generation Style Shapers stand using bits and bobs from everyday life that anyone could acquire.
Congratulations to Aslam Mahomed of Black Chilli Design on his Green Stand Award win. He has received a two-night getaway for two at the V&A Marina Residential in Cape Town compliments of Proproperty.com and Home from Home Hospitality.
